She was born in Dinar in 1961. She started his university education at METU, Department of Mathematics and completed it at Ege University, Department of Philosophy. She completed his master’s degree at the same department (the Place of Locke’s ‘Two Treatises on Government’ in the Natural Law Tradition) and his PhD at the University of Paris VIII Saint Denis (The Relationship between Power and Legitimacy in Arendt and Habermas). Toker, one of the signatories of the declaration ‘Academics for Peace’ or ‘We will not be a party to this crime’, was dismissed from the Department of Philosophy at Ege University, where she was a professor, in January 2017 with a Decree Law.
Some of his writings on political philosophy were published in a book entitled Politics and Responsibility (İletişim, 2012). In addition to his academic identity, she is a human rights defender who continues his work at the Human Rights Foundation Academy. She was among the preparers of the book Academics’ Dismissals; Rights Violations, Losses, Empowerment Processes, published by the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey in 2019. Nilgün Toker is the co-editor of the Journal of Society and Science and her articles have been published in various journals.
