Şebnem Korur Fincancı

Turkish Medical Association (TTB)

Şebnem Korur Fincancı, President of the Central Council of the Turkish Medical Association (TMA), was born in 1959 in Istanbul. After graduating from the Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, she specialised in Forensic Medicine. Between 1987 and 1990, she received a bachelor’s degree in Classical Archaeology from the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University. She was one of the founding members of the Forensic Medicine Specialists Association established in 1992 and served as the chairperson of the association between 1993 and 2000. She is one of the founding members of the Turkish Penal Code Association. Fincancı took part in studies conducted by international organisations including the United Nations, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRTC) and PHR USA. During the TMA’s 72nd General Congress, she was elected as the President of the Central Council of TMA after the Etkin Demokratik TTB (Active Democratic TMA) group won the election. Fincancı has served as the President of the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey between the years 2009-2020.
